You can encourage honey bees and bumble bees into your garden by choosing plants that are good sources of nectar and/or pollen for them, such as:
| Berberis |
Heather |
Michaelmas Daisy |
| Borage |
Hebe |
Mint & Catmint |
| Ceanothus |
Lavender |
Sedum |
| Cotoneaster |
Marjoram |
Thyme |
There are many more. The British Beekeepers’ Association has two useful leaflets which you can download free by clicking on these links:
Bees don’t just forage for nectar and pollen. They also collect water. If you have a bird bath or small pond in your garden, don’t be surprised to see bees drinking from it, particularly in the spring.
If you do encourage bees into your garden, take care when using pesticides or you’ll be undoing all the good work you have done.
