It is a good idea to experience bees at close quarters before you commit yourself, eg by arranging a visit to our apiary where you can borrow protective clothing (if you don't have your own). If you join our association you can come to all our meetings and learn a great deal about beekeeping before you embark on purchasing your own hives or enrolling in a beginners course.
We run a course for beginners early every year. This consists of eight evening classes on the theory of beekeeping from February to April, followed by practical sessions during the beekeeping season. It is usually oversubscribed but members of the association take priority for places. To find out more and to book a place, please get in touch with the Beginners Course Manager.
