Beekeeping Conference Hosts for 2008
GWENT BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION

The Midland and South Western Counties Convention will be hosted by Gwent Beekeepers’ Association in 2008.  The Association looks forward to welcoming beekeepers from across the UK .  It is also a superb opportunity for local members to hear a range of eminent speakers on their doorstep

The event will be held at The Hill in Abergavenny.  It has its own grounds and walled garden, and offers single and double rooms with full en suite facilities for residential delegates.  However, you don’t have to stay - those living locally can attend as day delegates.  We are putting together a full programme for the Saturday and Sunday, and there’ll be something for residential delegates on Friday evening too.  If there is a particular speaker you would like to hear, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.  Full details of the programme and booking arrangements will be posted on this website nearer the tim

For those who don’t know the area, Abergavenny is in a stunning setting on the River Usk, surrounded by three distinctive mountains.  It has very easy access from the motorway network, and also has a railway station.  There is lots to do in the surrounding area for non-beekeeping partners, and even die-hard beekeepers coming from further afield may want to extend their stay to enjoy the area more fully

The Abergavenny Weekend is being organised by Bridget and Stuart Woodhead and Peter & Trish Hayward.  For information, contact Peter Hayward on 01600 712864 or peter@haywd.plus.com. Background

In 1921 five Midland and South Western Counties beekeeping associations collaborated together to put on a conference whose aim was to encourage and advance beekeeping. Since then several other counties have joined the original five and keep the tradition alive by holding an annual conference, organized in rotation by the member associations.  The 2006 Convention was hosted by the Leicester and Rutland Beekeepers and the 2007 one by the Worcester Beekeepers.  The 2008 Convention in Abergavenny will be the 80th.  It is open to everyone, whether or not they are a member of a participating association.
